Unsatisfied

Big Top 101 USA London American UK Written by Giant – Baum - Kaye 1965 Written by: Giant, Baum and Kaye Lou Johnson should have been a big star in the UK, but his original recordings were always copied by other, bigger UK based stars. Many of Lou’s songs were written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. “Message To Martha” was covered by Dionne Warwick and Adam Faith and “Always Something There To Remind Me” by Sandy Shaw and Dionne Warwick. He appeared in a memorable edition of RSG (Ready Steady Go) in the early sixties, a Mod TV programme) when he sang live versions of: “A Time To Love A Time To Cry” (Petite Fleur) the 'B' side was “UNSATISFIED”. Both tracks were very popular at Soul Clubs as was “MAGIC POTION”. Released in 1997 the CD of Lou Johnson has all his major recordings but curiously it does not include “Message To Martha”. It was ‘Unsatisfied’ that became the ‘dance’ track at the Twisted wheel and deservedly so. It has been picked up since those times at the Brazennose and later the Whitworth Street Twisted Wheel locations in Manchester to become a firm favourite right up to the present day in with the Northern Soul crowd and Kev Roberts puts this magnificent Soul Record at 32 in his Top 500. It’s at 14 in this 500 and without doubt proves that the Godfather of Northern Soul was indeed Roger Eagle the ‘Wheel’s DJ in 65 when he set the place alive with this 45!
