The Boogaloo Party
by The Flamingos
089
At 89 on our Top 500 is the fabulous ‘Boogaloo Party’ by the Flamingos. On the UK Philips record label BF 1786. They had a big hit on the USA ‘Doo Wop scene in the 1950’ with ‘I Only Have eyes For You’ adding numerous ‘Sho wap, Shoo wap’s’ into the chorus of this ‘standard’ song to give it the ‘Doo Wop’ style. But the ‘Boogaloo Party’ was a ‘horse of an entirely different colour’! A Soul Scene – one hit phenomenon. Bongos begin it – then… aaar.. listen to the groove, come on.. and dance hardy – boogaloo party .. come on everybody, See that lazy bones over there, He can’t dance, I bet you he can…. And it was the greatest dancer: ‘Rubber Legs’ who had his Boogaloo Party 45 stolen at the Blue Note Club… in the novel The Manchester Wheelers, and also in real life?
