Meeting Over Yonder
by The Impressions
ABC Paramount USA H. M. V. POP 1446 U.K. 1965 Written by Curtis Mayfield with orchestral accompaniment from the Johnny Pate Orchestra. A very popular track at the Brazennose Street (the Original and first) Twisted Wheel, as were most of the Impressions records - both ‘a’ and ‘b’ sides featured heavily at the club in 65’ and 66’. Sixty six and onwards had the Impressions tracks like, ‘You Always Hurt Me’ and ‘I Can’t Satisfy’ as huge mega hits on the Whitworth Street ‘Wheel’ All-nighter scene. ‘Meeting Over Yonder’ sounded like an apocryphal Negro Spiritual song that might have been heard at Sunday Church meetings in the deep South states of the USA. But in fact it was a new song, which captured all those feelings and with Cutis’s great falsetto singing voice it was an angelic like recording that moved the Souls, hearts minds and dancing legs of the Brazzenose Street Wheel crowd. Johnny Pate was recruited in the 1960’ by Carl Davis at OKEH records and worked in Chicago at Universal Recording Studios owned by Murray Allen a short time later production was moved to a new ABC Paramount studio in Chicago. And in January 1963 Johnny began to work with The Impressions, orchestrating; "Sad Sad Girl and Boy," "It's All Right," "Talking About My Baby," "I'm So Proud," "Keep on Pushing". In later years - between 1968 – 1972 Johnny Pate worked again with Curtis Mayfield at CURTOM (Curtis’s own record label).
