DIAL A standard Blues and R&B song recorded by countless artists, some were: Big Bill Broonzy, La Vern Baker, Jimmy Witherspoon, The Orieles, Chuck Willis, Ike and Tina Turner and both Jimmy Smith and Jimmy McGriff did instrumental versions. Chuck Willis was a favourite of Roger Eagle at the first Twisted Wheel. The Joe Tex recording is quite unique: its hard to find, rare so far only released as a vinyl 45 on DIAL and no CD release. In 1968 it was imported by one of the DJ Dave’s at Manchester’s Blue Note Club and it is an upbeat treatment of the R&B standard, that was sure to get the dancefloor rocking at that club.
