The Impressions
A group called the Impressions appeared at the Brazennose Street Twisted Wheel in 1965 But they could not have been the originals as they never toured Europe until 1970. Whoever it was that was on stage at the Wheel that night were imitators. Originally the Impressions had Jerry Butler as lead singer and Curtis Mayfield as songwriter and lead guitarist. They had a big hit in 1958 with ‘For Your Precious Love’ and soon after Jerry went solo and Curtis had to step in. What followed was history – a truly magnificent historical and unique contribution to Soul music. Roger Eagle the Wheel DJ… played the original version of Amen by the Reverend Robinson, however it was the Impressions version that is most remembered today..
(Sunday) The Impressions – Imitators! Impostors. ??? Were they the Curtis Mayfield ones??? No way.
